Sculptures

After I finished my first handful of Tree Paintings I felt the desire to branch out from the canvas. I began by ripping up the mass amount of construction paper my toddler draws on and cooking paper mache paste over the stove. The trees are created with paper towel rolls and pipe cleaners, wrapped and painted, felt leaves stitched onto embroidery thread. Finding that the built up, bumpy, broken block like quality of the paper under the paint lent itself to mimicking the skin on a tree. I moved up in scale with Branch and Stump Bucket. In making Branch I was enamored with just how far I could push the realism of an actual limb of a tree. Stump Bucket was a lot more whimsical in pursuit and result. I wanted to create a functional art piece for our home. A hollow “stump” with lid that could serve as toy box as well as mesh with our home aesthetic.

If you are interested in commissioning a Stump Bucket or anything similar to my sculptures below please reach out I’d be happy to collaborate with you.
